A San Antonio police sergeant at the scene said the unidentified man’s mother called earlier Thursday morning to report the absence of her son, saying her handgun was also missing.

“As you can imagine, Thursday’s tragedy is a very sensitive and private matter for the family,” said NISD spokesman Barry Perez in a statement. “We want to respect their privacy. All I will confirm is that a Warren HS student died Thursday and that the campus did send notification to their community – nothing that identified the individual. The school is providing support to any student or staff needing assistance. I recall that media has always been respectful in a situation regarding suicides. I hope that discretion is used out of respect for the family.”

Our prayers go out to the victim’s family and friends.
