Tejano star Bobby Pulido hits campaign trail for Texas Congress seat in Mathis

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Tejano music star Bobby Pulido is trading the stage for the campaign trail.

The five-time Latin Grammy nominee and 22-time Tejano Music Award nominee made a stop Thursday night at the Cielito Lindo Dance Hall in Mathis as part of his newly announced campaign for Texas’ 15th Congressional District. The district stretches from McAllen north into Central Texas.

Pulido, a Democrat, is aiming to unseat incumbent Rep. Monica De La Cruz, potentially giving Democrats a shot at flipping the Republican-held seat.

“I’ve had a great career in the music business – it has been great to me – but there were certain things that I think needed to be addressed,” Pulido said. “And instead of being on the sidelines complaining, I decided to try to get involved and be a voice.”

Pulido is best known for his hit songs “Desvelado” and “Se Murió de Amor.”

His farewell music tour, Por La Puerta Grande, will make a stop in Corpus Christi on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
