SAN ANTONIO — All the people who scrambled out of bed at 4 a.m. were safe from an eastside apartment fire, but one neighbor says ten newborn puppies and their mother all died.
It happened in the 4500 block of Lavender Lane near South WW White Road.
First arriving firefighters found a first-floor unit on fire when they arrived and they say all the other residents in the building were able to evacuate safely. Officials say there were around 15 dogs total living inside the apartment. Two additional newborn puppies and two other dogs that were tied up outside survived, according to City of San Antonio Animal Care Services.
The incident commander said no one was home in the apartment where the fire started in a bedroom.
