While there are numerous charging stations available in downtown San Antonio but it looks like Tesla is planning to add another spot for its drivers on one of the city’s ever-evolving corridors. Tesla is eyeing a location just south of Maverick Park that is currently being used as a parking lot for an office building, according to a recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The project at 718 Broadway isn’t calling for much space — 600 square feet, according to the filing. The lot is directly across from the mass timber office building known as The Soto and the lot is fenced off as parking for the building. It’s unknown if the charging stations will be for public use or just people working in or visiting The Soto.
The TDLR filing doesn’t say if it will be a Supercharging Station like the one being built on the Far Westside. A land development application filed with the city of San Antonio only says “electric vehicle charging station.” A Google search shows at least 10 electric vehicle charging stations in downtown San Antonio, including two Tesla Destination Chargers.
Tesla Destination Chargers are usually offered at businesses or hotels where people can charger their vehicles while staying overnight, according to the Tesla website. Construction on the charging station is expected to begin in late April and set to finish by April 2024.
