HOUSTON — The Houston Texans are making a roster move that will impact their backfield heading into the start of the season.
The Texans announced on social media that, effective Tuesday at 3 p.m., running back Joe Mixon will be officially moved from the Active/Non-Football Injury list to the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list.
Under league rules, players placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list are required to sit out the first four games of the regular season. After that period, they may return to practice and eventually be activated.
The team did not disclose specifics about Mixon’s injury but said it will provide updates when appropriate. Sources previously told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that Mixon has been wearing a boot.
Mixon’s absence leaves the team relying on their remaining running backs, including Nick Chubb, Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale, Jawhar Jordan, British Brooks and rookie Woody Marks.
