Texans deal running back Akers to Vikings, per reports

In the deal, Houston reportedly will send Akers and a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick to Minnesota for a conditional conditional sixth-round pick.

HOUSTON — The Houston Texans have reportedly pulled the trigger on a trade with the Vikings, sending running back Cam Akers to Minnesota.

The deal was first reported by Tom Pelissero with NFL.com and confirmed by CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones.

According to both Pelissero and Jones, Houston gets a 2026 conditional sixth-round draft pick from Minnesota in exchange for Akers and a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick. NFL.com reports the deal is pending a physical.

For the Vikings, it’s the second straight season the team has traded for Akers.

Akers saw plenty of playing time this season because of injuries to Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce.  Akers had 40 carries for 147 yards and one touchdown.

Akers was a second-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Rams out of Florida State. He came to Houston as a free agent during the offseason.
