Texans observe moment of silence before game against Buccaneers, but don’t mention Charlie Kirk

HOUSTON — Across the NFL on Sunday, some stadium PA announcers called for a moment of silence to remember conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last week in Utah. At other stadiums, there was no mention.

At NRG Stadium before the Buccaneers-Texans game, the PA announcer did call for a moment of silence, but didn’t mention Kirk.

The video board then went black before the PA announcer read the following.

“We are asking all fans to join us in a moment of silence to honor all victims of violence and natural disasters across the country. It is our hope that together we can end all forms of violence.”

Then, after a long pause, “Thank you.”

According to CBS Sports, the NFL’s league office left it up to host teams to decide whether they would have a remembrance or moment of silence before their games. The NFL teams that held tributes for Kirk included the Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, and Arizona Cardinals.
