It’s the second straight season that the Titans will wear the uniforms once worn by the Houston Oilers when they play the Texans.
HOUSTON — They’re apparently doing it again. The Tennessee Titans will once again wear the Columbia Blue of the old Houston Oilers when the Texans come to Nashville on Sunday.
That’s according to Jim Wyatt with TennesseeTitans.com…and all of the oil derrick logos on the Titans website and social media.
It’ll be the second straight season that the Titans wear the unis against the Texans at Nissan Field. Last year when they did it, Houston beat Tennessee 19-16 in overtime behind quarterback Case Keenum, who was filling in for an injured CJ Stroud.
This Sunday will be the second time the teams will face each other this season. In the first matchup, Tennessee topped Houston at NRG Stadium, 32-27.
There’s not much at stake this time around, as the 9-7 Texans have wrapped up the AFC South and the No. 4 seed in the AFC playoffs. At 3-13, the Titans are tied for the NFL’s worst record.
As for the history, the Oilers left Houston after the 1996 season for Tennessee and after two seasons as the Tennessee Oilers, the franchise became the Titans in 1999. When the Texans entered the league in 2002, the two teams became division rivals.
