Texans warned not to eat Great Value dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets from Walmart

Health officials warned Texans to not eat the dino nuggets after detecting potentially harmful levels of lead in the product.

SAN ANTONIO — The Texas Department of State Health Services is warning consumers not to eat certain Great Value brand frozen dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets because they may contain elevated levels of lead.

The affected product, sold in 29-ounce bags with a best-by date of Feb. 10, 2027, was distributed through Walmart stores nationwide. The warning follows a public health alert issued Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

According to the alert, routine public health sampling detected potentially harmful levels of lead in the product. Officials emphasized that there is no safe level of lead in food. Exposure poses the greatest risk to children under six and to women who are pregnant or may become pregnant.

The affected packages have been removed from store shelves, but officials cautioned that consumers may still have them in their homes. Anyone with the product should not eat it and should either discard it or return it to the place of purchase.

The impacted packages are marked with a best-by date of “FEB 10 2027,” lot code “0416DPO1215” and establishment number “P44164,” according to the USDA.

Health officials encourage consumers to stay informed about food safety alerts and recalls through state and federal resources.
