COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M University’s beloved mascot, Reveille X, is recovering after undergoing surgery to remove her right eye due to complications from glaucoma, university officials announced Wednesday.
In a statement, Texas A&M President Gen. (Ret.) Mark A. Welsh III said the university’s “First Lady of Aggieland” had been experiencing discomfort and cloudiness in her right eye, which led to the diagnosis. During surgery at the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, veterinarians discovered abnormal tissue and removed the eye as a precaution. The tissue was sent to an ocular pathologist for further evaluation.
“I’m grateful to report that Miss Rev has come through the surgery successfully, has been discharged and is resting comfortably,” Welsh said. “Our priority is her health and well-being, and we are blessed to have access to the remarkably talented and caring Texas A&M veterinary team who will continue to monitor Miss Rev on her road to recovery.”
Reveille X, who serves as Texas A&M’s official mascot, will take a short break from public appearances while she recovers. Welsh said the popular Rough Collie is expected to return to her favorite activities, including attending classes and cheering on the Aggies, by the fall.
