Texas authorities warn owners of these 10 vehicles to take extra precautions

Texas vehicle theft data shows thieves have clear favorites.

HOUSTON — Two Chevrolet pickup trucks led the list of most stolen vehicles in Texas during October, according to data released by the Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority.

The Chevy Silverado claimed the top spot, followed by the GMC Sierra in second place. The Hyundai Elantra rounded out the top three most stolen vehicles for the month.

Ford trucks also featured prominently on the list, with the F150 ranking fourth and the F250 taking fifth place. The remaining positions were filled by the Hyundai Sonata (6th), Kia Optima (7th), Dodge 1500 (8th), Dodge Challenger (9th), and Chevy Tahoe (10th).

The rankings showed little change from September’s data, with only a few vehicles swapping positions on the list, according to the authority’s social media post.

The data comes from Texas Department of Public Safety records from October.

Officials urged vehicle owners to take preventive measures to protect their rides. Recommendations include always locking vehicles, removing keys, and never leaving valuables in sight. The authority also highlighted anti-theft devices such as kill switches, tracking devices, and The Club as tools that can make vehicles harder targets for thieves.
