Texas Costal Bend’s Anthony Banda can now call himself a World Series champion

NEW YORK — The Coastal Bend now has another World Series champion in Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Anthony Banda.

Banda made four appearances in the five World Series games and didn’t allow a run in 2.1 IP. That included coming on in relief of starter Jack Flaherty in the clinching Game 5 in the Bronx. The only game Banda did not pitch in was the game the Dodgers lost.

Jose Trevino’s (St. John Paul II) Yankees came up short of the franchise’s 28th championship. Trevino saw action behind the plate in Game 3 of the series.

The former Sinton Pirate Banda joins Rob Zastryzny (Calallen) of the 2016 Chicago Cubs, Burt Hooton (King) of the 1981 Dodgers and Nolan Ryan (Refugio) of the 1969 New York Mets as World Series winning players from the Coastal Bend. Refugio’s Dan Firova was a part of the Astros’ coaching staff on the 2022 World Series championship team. Mike Adams (Sinton) pitched for the Rangers in the 2011 World Series in a losing effort.
