Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert claimed Hunt Realty Investments formerly had ties to the Oakmont Industrial Group that sold the warehouse to DHS.
SAN ANTONIO — Bexar County Precinct 4 Commissioner Tommy Calvert spoke last week about Hunt Realty Investments during a Bexar County Commission vote opposing the ICE Detention Center being built on the east side.
Last Tuesday, Calvert said the Oakmont 410 Warehouse, now under ownership of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), was built by Hunt Realty Investments and Oakmont Industrial Group.
Hunt Realty Investments is based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The Oakmont Industrial Group is based in Atlanta.
Calvert said both groups divested their ties to the warehouse a few months before it was sold to DHS.
The commissioner said he wants to look into Hunt Realty Investments because he believes the firm is linked to the Frost Bank Center and Freeman Coliseum redevelopment that voters approved in the November election.
KENS 5 contacted Realty Investments, which provided a statement denying these claims.
“Unfortunately, Commissioner Calvert was misinformed in his comments,” said Paul Schulze, spokesperson for Hunt Realty Investments. “Hunt Realty Investments divested its interest in Oakmont Industrial Group back in February 2010 and has not played any role whatsoever with this warehouse on San Antonio’s east side.”
On June 27, 2025, the Bexar County Coliseum Advisory Board and Commissioners Court issued a request for statements of qualifications from experienced teams to redevelop the Frost Bank Center and Freeman Coliseum.
The deadline was August 12, and according to Derrick Howard, executive director of the Freeman Coliseum, the Hunt Development Group, under Hunt Companies, submitted a proposal.
The Hunt Development Group, which is based in El Paso, also shared with KENS 5 that it has no ties to the Oakmont 410 warehouse.
Howard says Bexar County started negotiations with Hunt Development Group in Fall 2025 that are still pending.
KENS 5 reached out to Commissioner Calvert to clarify his statements, but we have not received a response.
