Texas DPS: Pursuit with driver with active warrant ends in crash, arrests in San Antonio

Officials say the driver stopped at first, but then fled, leading to a pursuit involving multiple DPS units.

SAN ANTONIO — A pursuit throughout San Antonio led to an accident and multiple arrests near I-35, Texas DPS says.

Around 2:16 p.m. Friday, a DPS trooper pulled over a white Nissan Sentra for a traffic stop near Crestway and Randolph. Officials say the driver stopped at first, but then fled, leading to a pursuit involving multiple DPS units.

Near I-35 and Walzem, the driver allegedly tried to hit a DPS patrol vehicle, but lost control, hit a concrete barrier and collided with a commercial trailer.

The driver has been identified as 30-year-old George Gutierrez. Officials say he had an active warrant. In addition, he faces charges of evading arrest, aggravated assault against a peace officer with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance (meth) and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

A rear passenger, 36-year-old Renee Vasquez, was also arrested on multiple warrants.

A third passenger allegedly provided a false ID and has not been positively identified. They will be charged as well once they are identified.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

I-35 was fully reopened at 4:41 p.m.
