Texas DPS rolls out with new driver license design

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has a new design for driver’s licenses and state IDs starting Monday, August 18.

In a press release, DPS said IDs have a new look that increases security features, making it harder for criminals to produce counterfeit cards.

If you have one, it is still good until its expiration date.

The new DL and ID cards are made of tamper-resistant polycarbonate material that is difficult to reproduce and compliant with American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators standards.

“The way driver licenses are made can make a big difference in terms of public safety,” said DPS Driver License Division Chief Sheri Gipson.

Instead of a gold star, the new cards feature a black laser-engraved star in the upper right corner, showing that they comply with REAL ID.
