Texas DPS trooper stops smuggling attempt on US-90; two children safely recovered

Texas DPS says a trooper stopped a smuggling attempt on US-90 in Kinney County, arresting a San Antonio woman and recovering two children.

KINNEY COUNTY, Texas — A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper in South Texas uncovered a human smuggling attempt earlier this month after stopping a vehicle along US-90 in Kinney County.

According to DPS, the traffic stop happened on Wednesday, Feb. 11, when a trooper pulled over a black Cadillac XT5. During the investigation, officials say the driver was smuggling four undocumented immigrants, including an adult man from Honduras, an adult woman from Belize, and two children from Belize, ages 6 and 8.

Authorities said further investigation revealed the man from Honduras allegedly paid $10,000 to be smuggled into the United States and transported to Florida. DPS also reported that the woman and two children had been waiting at a stash house before being moved toward San Antonio.

The driver, identified as Georgina De Hoyos of San Antonio, was arrested and charged with four counts of human smuggling.

DPS praised the trooper’s work, noting the safe recovery of the two young children.

All four individuals were referred to U.S. Border Patrol custody as the investigation continues.
