CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As part of its Safe Gun Storage Campaign, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is reminding gun owners to secure firearms during the busy holiday season.
DPS says with more travel, gatherings, and children visiting unfamiliar homes, safe storage is key to preventing accidents, unauthorized access, and theft.
DPS encourages Texans to lock firearms when not in use, ask about gun storage before visiting other homes, and double-check that all guns are secured before hosting guests.
Travelers and shoppers are advised to store firearms in locked cases secured to their vehicles, rather than in glove boxes or consoles.
Those giving firearms as gifts are encouraged to include a gun lock or lockbox.
