SAN ANTONIO — Texas DPS is pushing everyone to download a free app on your phone to help curb violent threats.
It’s called the iWatchTexas app and the app push comes after numerous threats have been made online against political leaders, protesters, and minority groups.
The app allows you to anonymously make a report in less than five minutes.
The app allows you to list a time, address, photo, and a description of the situation in order for law enforcement can review your case.
You can make these reports when noticing a threat or suspicious activity….including instances that involve school safety.
Texas DPS says multiple reports on the same issue can make it a high attention priority.
“One of our biggest concerns is always people making threats to our communities, such as schools, even this past year, there was a threat that was made online,” said Sgt. Billy Ray, III, Texas DPS. “That threat was toward a school and the FBI, the tipster actually used the iWatchTX app to report that tip and that person was arrested by the FBI.”
Recent arrests made in San Antonio where the iWatchTexas app would be able to assist police include the cases of Travis Hayson and Joseph Veilleux.
Hayson was arrested June 14, accused of posting online about shooting and killing protesters ahead of the “No Kings” rally that was happening that day.
Joseph Veilleux was also booked last month for charges involving terroristic threat and influencing general violence.
According to his arrest affidavit, Veilleux posted at least 18 threats on YouTube between May 24 and June 11, including death threats to New York Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, and California Congresswoman Maxine Waters.
You can download the iWatch Texas app on your iPhone or Android.
