Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham wants Apple to create emojis of the Texas flag, the Alamo and an outline of the state.
AUSTIN, Texas — Are you tired of using the Chilean flag emoji any time you want to show your Texas pride in a text or social media post? One state official is pushing to change that.
Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham has filed a petition, asking tech giant Apple to create some emojis that Texans can use to show their state pride the proper way.
Buckingham is asking Apple to create three Texas-specific emojis to add to its emoji keyboard: the Texas flag, the Alamo and an outline of the state.
“Texans do not have a Texas flag emoji to accompany a picture of their favorite cowboy boots, their award-winning chili recipe, or a beautiful field of bluebonnets,” Buckingham’s Change.org petition reads. “An official Texas flag emoji, a Texas state-shaped emoji, and the Alamo emoji on iPhones would allow users to express their loud-and-proud Texas roots.”
