Texas high school student passes away following leukemia battle

Adsila Sarah “Sila” Tramel, a junior at Longview High School, died Friday after a battle with leukemia.

LONGVIEW, Texas — Longview ISD announced a high school student died this week after a battle with leukemia.

Adsila Sarah “Sila” Tramel, a junior at Longview High School, died Friday after a battle with leukemia. 

“Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of this remarkable young student,” said Superintendent Marla Sheppard. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and everyone whose lives she touched and inspired through her tremendous courage and faith.”

Counselors will be available to support students and staff processing Adsila’s death. Anyone in need of help is encouraged to reach out.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with Sila’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” a statement from Longview ISD said. “We kindly ask that everyone respect the family’s wish for privacy as they grieve.”

Adsila’s family described her as fierce, full of sass and loyal.

“I can’t explain the pain, the hurt, the soul piercing, heart shattering feeling it has left us with in our life and hearts,” Jessia Tramel, Adsila’s mother, said. “I can’t thank yall enough for all the prayers and love and support you have all given us in this past year and past couple of months.”
