SAN ANTONIO — Texas is joining a nationwide effort designed to ensure more children in foster care have access to safe and stable homes.
The initiative, known as A Home for Every Child, was created to increase placement options for children in the foster care system and address ongoing shortages of licensed foster homes across the country.
According to Gov. Greg Abbott’s office, the effort seeks to reverse that trend by recruiting more foster families, expanding kinship care opportunities and streamlining the process for Texans interested in becoming foster parents.
The program originated through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and supports President Donald Trump’s executive order, “Fostering the Future for American Children and Families.”
State officials said the initiative’s goal is to provide more than one potential home option for every child in foster care, helping ensure children can be matched with placements that best fit their needs.
Supporters of the program say increasing the number of available foster homes can provide children with greater stability, structure and consistency while they navigate the foster care system.
Officials hope the initiative will encourage more families to consider becoming foster parents and help improve outcomes for children in need of temporary or long-term care.
