Texas man arrested after crime spree, including setting cars on fire and damaging school

He is looking at multiple arson charges, deadly conduct charge and a possible burglary charge.

CHIRENO, Texas — An East Texas man accused of going on an early Friday morning crime spree, including setting multiple cars on fire and damaging a high school, was arrested.

Colton Lee Dickerson, 30, of Chireno, is facing multiple charges after the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office had to respond to six calls beginning around 5:20 a.m. in the Chireno area.

Currently, he is in the Nacogdoches County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest with a vehicle.

Deputies were first called to reports of a busted window at home. Then, 30 minutes later, they found a vehicle on fire at a home. Nearby there was a stock of a firearm and vehicle tracks. That vehicle was destroyed.

Around 6 a.m., deputies found a Chireno ISD police car on fire and the two front doors of high school had been rammed, causing significant damage. The police vehicle was destroyed as well.

Then, a homeowner found a man spraying something on their porch and then he set a pillow on fire. Dickerson hit the homeowner’s car as he drove away. He got to another home, hit their car, grabbed a gun and pointed it at that homeowner, the sheriff’s office said.

He drove the wrong way and had to turn around, where he argued with the homeowner. Then, she got a gun and shot at Dickerson. He wasn’t hit but he drove away again, the NCSO said.

Later, he was found in a vehicle during a traffic stop around 7 a.m. Deputies learned afterward he also busted a window of someone’s work truck, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff Jason Bridges said Dickerson was saying things that didn’t make sense. He is looking at multiple arson charges, a deadly conduct charge and a possible burglary charge.

The Texas Fire Marshal’s Office is helping with the investigation. Bridges said Dickerson will have serious consequences to face for his actions.
