A gruesome murder shocked Waller County
Back in January 2023, deputies responded to a small home tucked behind Dicus’ parents’ property on Oak Hollow in rural Waller County. They discovered Diaz decapitated inside, her head severed with a kitchen knife and her body left in the house.
Dicus remained at the scene until law enforcement arrived. He confessed to the killing during questioning, Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry confirmed at the time. Prior disturbances had been reported at the home.
Diaz, originally from Nicaragua, worked two jobs — including at a local store — to support her aunt’s cancer treatment back home. Coworkers remembered her as joyful and always smiling, though some noticed she seemed tired or off at times after marrying Dicus in October 2022.
Surveillance video captured Dicus at her workplace hours after the murder, grabbing a beer without paying and chugging it in the parking lot.
Friends noted red flags in the relationship. Diaz’s boss, Veronica Jimenez, said she appeared happy with Dicus initially, but “there were days when she was different.”
From confession to conviction — and now death
Dicus pleaded guilty in 2024 and received 40 years, with parole eligibility not until 2043. TDCJ spokesperson Amanda Hernandez confirmed his death resulted from a self-inflicted injury.
