Texas native Shedeur Sanders has an NFL home. Here’s who picked the Colorado QB on the final day of the draft.

Shedeur Sanders played his high school football here in DFW as a four-star prospect from Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill.

DALLAS — The NFL Draft kicked off Thursday from Green Bay, Wisc., and one of the most talked about storylines of the draft was the landing spot for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Sanders was drafted No. 144 overall in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns.

It seemed like Sanders was going to be picked in the second round by the New Orleans Saints, but he was prank called by someone pretending to be Saints GM Mickey Loomis

He was among the top-rated quarterbacks in the 2025 class alongside Cam Ward, who was the consensus top pick in the draft.

Sanders’ teammate and Heisman-winning playmaker, Travis Hunter, followed the Sanders’ from Jackson State to Colorado.

Who is Shedeur Sanders?

Shedeur Sanders played his high school football here in DFW as a four-star prospect from Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill. Sanders initially committed to play his college ball at Florida Atlantic over offers from Florida State, Florida, Georgia and Alabama. He then flipped his commitment to play for HBCU powerhouse Jackson State after his father, Deion, was named the Tigers’ head coach.

Deion and Shedeur helped raise the profile of Jackson State, leading the program to 10-2 and 11-1 records in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

Deion left Jackson State to become the head coach of Colorado, and Shedeur followed his dad to Boulder, transferring to the school slated to join the Big 12 in 2024.

In two seasons at Colorado, Shedeur Sanders led the Buffs to a 13-11 record and threw for 7,364 yards, 64 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
