Ewers is set to face his former team, the Ohio State Buckeyes, in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers appears to have his mind made up on whether to return to school for another year or declare for the NFL Draft.
In an interview with ESPN’s Pete Thamel ahead of the Longhorns’ Cotton Bowl matchup against Ohio State, Ewers said he does not expect to return to college football and plans to play in the NFL next season.
While the junior QB didn’t say anything definitive, ESPN reported that sources close to Ewers said the “overwhelming likelihood” is that he will declare for the NFL Draft.
Ewers has spent the last three seasons at Texas and helped lead them to a Big 12 Championship in 2023, an SEC Championship appearance in 2024 and back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinal appearances.
Prior to his time at UT, Ewers redshirted at Ohio State in 2021. Before that, he played high school football in North Texas for the Southlake Carroll Dragons. Now, just over three years later, he’s gearing up to face the Buckeyes with a shot at the National Championship on the line.
The next man up on the Longhorns’ roster is Arch Manning, the nephew of two-time Super Bowl winners Eli and Peyton Manning. Manning has played in nine games this season, going 2-0 as a starter.
Whether the Longhorns win or lose tonight, it seems as though they will have to turn the page to a new chapter next season.
