Kinne’s new $14 million deal makes him the highest paid coach in the Sun Belt Conference.
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas State and head football coach G.J. Kinne are close to finalizing a new seven-year contract extension that will make the Bobcats head coach the highest paid coach in the Sun Belt Conference.
According to a report from ESPN, university officials approved the terms of the deal in a board meeting on Thursday and it is expected to be completed soon.
Under the new deal, Kinne is set to make an average of $2 million per season until 2031.
Since Kinne was hired ahead of the 2023 season, the Texas State football program has experienced a resurgence, qualifying for – and winning – its ever first bowl game last season 11 years after joining the FBS in 2012.
Kinne currently holds a 14-9 record with the Bobcats, including a 6-4 record so far in 2024.
