Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures hosts Japanese umbrella painting event

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Color and creativity took center stage at the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures, as the community was invited to take part in a unique art experience: painting traditional Japanese umbrellas, known as wagasa.

Families had the chance to learn and celebrate Asian culture one brushstroke at a time, while decorating their own with vibrant patterns and personal flair.

“I’m excited—just spending time together with my daughter and having this opportunity is pretty cool,” Penny Engelking shared.

The event offered a fun and interactive way for families to engage with tradition while enjoying time together.

You can find activities like this year-round at the museum. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for future events, workshops, and more!
