A Texas trooper is pulled from duty after a tense sideline encounter with South Carolina players sparks an official review.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — A Texas state trooper has been removed from his game-day assignment after making contact with two South Carolina players during Saturday’s matchup at Texas A&M, the university confirmed.
The incident unfolded late in the second quarter after South Carolina receiver Nyck Harbor hauled in an 80-yard touchdown pass. Harbor appeared to grab his right leg before walking up the tunnel, with teammate Oscar Adaway III trailing behind him.
As the two turned to re-enter the field, a Texas state trooper abruptly moved between them, bumping into Adaway and pointing at the players in what appeared to be a reprimand. Harbor’s teammate quickly pushed him away as they continued toward the field.
In a statement, the Texas Department of Public Safety said the trooper involved “was sent home from the game” and that the agency’s Office of Inspector General will review the incident. DPS added that no further information will be released while the matter is under review.
