
The five-day long event saw a repeat champion at the country club.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The five-day long Texas Women’s Amateur Golf Tournament wrapped up Friday over at the Corpus Christi Country Club.
The 104th edition of the tournament started with 85 golfers Monday in the practice round. Those got narrowed down throughout the week with the championship match between the final two golfers Friday morning.
Kristi Knight of the Texas Golf Association says this tournament always features some of the best golfers in the state and this week has been no exception.
“Tt’s a historic championship,” Knight told 3NEWS. Texas is known on both the men’s and the women’s side for for a history of great players and this year we started the field we had 3 former champions.”
Speaking of former champions, it was the defending amateur champion Grace Jin of Huntsville making it back-to-back titles as she defeated Tillie Claggett of Spring. Jin will now once again earn an automatic exemption into the United States Amateur, which will be held in August at Bandon Dunes in Oregon.
