Thanksgiving Week in San Antonio: Trash pickup, office closures, and what stays open

San Antonio’s Thanksgiving schedule reveals city closures on Nov. 27 and 28, impacting municipal services but keeping key safety and emergency operations active.

SAN ANTONIO — As San Antonians gear up for Thanksgiving week, here’s a heads-up on what’s staying open, what’s shutting down, and how city services will look during the holiday stretch.

The City of San Antonio released its holiday schedule, noting that City Hall and most municipal offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28. Public safety and emergency crews will still be on duty, and several other services will run on adjusted hours. Here’s what to expect:

Open:

  • Police will be on duty
  • Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel will be on duty
  • 3-1-1 (210-207-6000) will be operational only for urgent animal-related and traffic signal concerns from 8 a.m. – 11 p.m. on Thursday, November 27. The Call Center will resume normal operating hours on Friday, November 28, for regular calls.
  • Animal Care Officers will be on duty.
  • Code Enforcement Officers will be available for inspections and emergency coverage.
  • Downtown parking visitors will enjoy free parking on Thursday, November 27, at all City-operated garages, lots, and on-street meters; on Friday, November 28, free parking will apply only to on-street meters, while garages and lots resume normal operations.
  • City parks and trails will be open.
  • Animal Care Services Lobby and Adoption Center will be closed Thursday, November 17, but will open Friday, November 28, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the Black Furday adoption event.
  • Municipal Court Magistration services and SAPD’s detention center will be open.

Waste Collection & Drop Off

Thursday, November 27

  • There will be no garbage, recycling, or organics curbside collections.
  • Bitters Brush site at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway, will be closed.
  • All four Bulky Waste drop-off centers, and the Household Hazardous Waste drop-off center (Bitters, Frio City Rd., Rigsby, and Culebra) will be closed.

Friday, November 28

  • Garbage, recycling and organics will be collected from Thursday’s routes.
  • Bitters Brush site at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway, will be closed.
  • All four Bulky Waste drop-off centers, and the Household Hazardous Waste drop-off center (Bitters, Frio City Rd., Rigsby, and Culebra) will be closed.

Saturday, November 29

  • Garbage, recycling and organics will be collected from Friday’s routes.
  • Bitters Brush site at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway, will be open.
  • All four Bulky Waste drop-off centers, and the Household Hazardous Waste drop-off center (Bitters, Frio City Rd., Rigsby, and Culebra) will be open.

Facilities & Administrative Offices

  • La Villita and Market Square shops will be closed on Thursday, November 27, and open on Friday, November 28.
  • Spanish Governor’s Palace will be closed on Thursday, November 27, and will be open on Friday, November 28.
  • Alamodome Box Office is closed on Thursday, November 27, but will be open at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 28.
