The countdown begins: Josh Abbott Band named grand marshals of 134th Battle of Flowers Parade

The stage is set for one of San Antonio’s most iconic events.

SAN ANTONIO — The countdown to one of San Antonio’s most cherished traditions has officially begun! Organizers of the 134th Annual Battle of Flowers Parade announced the Josh Abbott Band as this year’s Grand Marshals, unveiling the exciting theme, “Melodies in Bloom.”

Taking place on May 2, this year’s parade promises to be bigger and brighter, celebrating the heart and soul of Texas music and culture.

A rich tradition in San Antonio since 1891, the Battle of Flowers Parade has been a staple of Fiesta, showcasing vibrant floats, live performances and rich Texas heritage.

Parade Chairman Caroline Cain shared the significance of this year’s event:

“Over the past 133 years, we’ve had first ladies, governors, senators, generals, astronauts, olympians, rodeo clowns and musicians as grand marshals. There’s no better way to celebrate Texas music than with the one and only Josh Abbott Band!”

Known for hits like “She’s Like Texas” and “Amnesia,” the Josh Abbott Band says they’re thrilled to lead the parade.

“We’ve played during Fiesta before, so we know how important this tradition is to San Antonio,” said Josh Abbott. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we’re just super excited to represent Texas music.”

In addition to the live music, the parade will feature stunning, over-the-top floats designed by local high school students, celebrating Texas’ musical traditions, from Tejano to Jazz and Rock. Attendees can also look forward to the 2025 parade medal and a special Texas wildflower pin, both unveiled during the announcement.

“Every year, we create a medal that captures the theme, and this year, it’s all about ‘Melodies in Bloom,’” Cain added.

The Battle of Flowers Parade kicks off on May 2 at 9:55 a.m. Get your tickets now to experience the incredible music, vibrant floats, and Texas pride firsthand.
