The Doseum explores emotions through ‘Inside Out’ exhibition

The Doseum in San Antonio unveils its new exhibition inspired by Pixar’s “Inside Out,” focusing on emotional learning for children.

SAN ANTONIO — Anger, fear, joy, disgust and sadness are emotions everyone has. Especially your kids.

These emotions are also characters in the popular Pixar movies “Inside Out” and “Inside Out 2.”

“I think what’s really brilliant about the movie is it’s taking this kind of complex thing of our psyche,” Meredith Doby, Chief Creative Officer of the Doseum said. “Like how our mind works and then breaks it out into really fun and playful characters.”

The movie is also the inspiration for the newest exhibition at the Doseum in San Antonio: “Emotions at Play with Pixar’s Inside Out.”

“So, the exhibition is all about our emotions, imagination, dreams—both understanding our emotions and managing our emotions,” Doby said. “So that’s something important, you know, for adults and children to all learn. But we do it all through joyful learning.

Kids are exploring all parts of the movie: from the control room, to creating memories to storing those memories.

There’s also plenty of games to get their minds racing.

“There’s several hands-on interactives where kids can play,” Doby said. “But then also sort of understand and practice those different emotions.”

And these kids aren’t just having fun at the Doseum, they’re learning about emotions that they may feel that they might not understand yet.

“I mean, I have a toddler at home and it’s— you know, it’s hard. It’s hard to understand our emotions and how we react to them,” Doby said. “So that’s a key part of early childhood. And so being able to see all the young children here today is really cool in that they’re playing games, but they’re also starting to understand these emotions.”

Because it’s never too early to learn about your emotions, and to add another core memory to long-term memory.

This exhibition will be running all summer long starting May 24 through Sept. 1

So if you have a kid at home who wants to learn more about their emotions, you might want to head to the Doseum.
