‘The forgotten are remembered forever’ | SA military members showcase art in downtown gallery

A public art display by military, veterans and first responders will be showcased for all of San Antonio at Grunt Style through Veterans Day.

SAN ANTONIO — At Grunt Style Retail in the heart of downtown, warriors are putting their hearts on full display.

Tom Spooner is the co-founder and president of Warriors Heart. He says every one of the pieces of art has a story.

“There will be an auction for some of the pieces,” Spooner said. “People are always looking for a way like, ‘Hey, how do I help?’ So one of the ways to help is to fund treatments that Irreverent Warriors that Grunt Style is doing, and what Warriors Heart is doing.”

From Memorial Day through Veterans Day, you have the opportunity to support those who wear their hearts on their sleeve, bringing recovery stories to life.

“The forgotten are remembered forever,” Spooner said. “And how that ties into Memorial Day, every day is Memorial Day.”

Christina Moreno is the executive director for Warriors Heart.

“Leaving their baggage at Warriors Heart and then we’re going to take it from there,” Moreno said. “We’re gonna continue to carry their load.”

“A lot of our warriors don’t even realize that they have this ability,” she said. “And what our instructors Dan And Christina can do is that they can get a story out through a story. So the warriors get to come in and express it no matter how dark or light their story is.”

The organization honors the dead by the lives warriors live.

“Leaving their baggage at Warriors Heart and then we’re going to take it from there,” Moreno said. “We’re gonna continue to carry their load.”

Grunt Style is located at 900 Broadway Street.
