The Cleveland Browns drafted quarterback Shedeur Sanders at pick No. 144 in the 2025 NFL Draft despite character concerns.
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Tyler, Texas born Shedeur Sanders was the sixth quarterback to be taken in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Cleveland Browns picked up the Colorado star with pick No. 144, in a move that left analysts scratching their heads, especially because just 50 picks before, the Browns selected Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
After years of high draft pick projections for Sanders, the sudden slide came as a surprise. Stats-wise, he sure doesn’t play like a fifth round talent, but after recent criticisms to his character, the rumor teams being weary of a diva-like attitude could explain the slide.
If that is the case, then the Browns themselves are already guilty of quarterback attitude issues on their own roster. DeShaun Watson, an active quarterback on their roster, has faced over two dozen sexual misconduct allegations dating back to 2020. Outside of Cleveland are players like running back Kareem Hunt, who was seen on video getting into a physical altercation with a woman in 2018. Hunt rushed for 728 yards for the Chiefs in 2024.
It seems players who can play will do just that in the NFL, regardless of their character or attitude issues. That even showed in the draft, because if the NFL GM’s really wanted to make a point, they wouldn’t have drafted Sanders, but they did.
Because in the end, the only thing that really matters is winning.
