We head to Stretch Zone on the city’s northeast side to find out about their assisted stretching technique.
SAN ANTONIO — We’re all on our screens a lot more these days, and that means more of a sedentary lifestyle. Add to that overworking, and muscle tension is often at a high. But something many of us don’t do daily, stretching, can improve your life drastically and make simple tasks you may no longer be able to do, doable.
Welcome to Stretch Zone. We went to their Stone Oak location on the city’s northeast side. Their goal, to make movement pain-free.
Kathryn Comfort, a Stretch Zone franchise owner, including their Stone Oak location told us, “Remember the old saying, no pain, no gain? No, that doesn’t even exist with us anymore. So we go to a seven, allowing that to be the most significant stretch that we do.”
So you can stretch, work, play and repeat it all over.
“When you come in a stretch zone, you are actually laying on a table,” Comfort added. “We have a strapping system that isolates every muscle group that we work on. And it kind of acts as an extra set of hands, you know, for our practitioners.”
Q, a Stretch Zone practitioner and general manager of their Stone Oak location said, “We call this our a championship belt. And we put this on your waist right here. (click sound) Just to keep your body from compensating and moving around during the stretch.”
KENS5’s Jeremy Baker gave it a try, especially after telling them how badly he pulled out my back just before stepping outside to report on the ice in Kerrville. The pain made standing and talking with frozen lips almost unbearable. After a lumbar twist he said he could feel much less tension in his lower back.
Comfort added, “When we are using those muscles and moving those muscles and manipulating that, it gives you the best stretch that you can actually get better than what you can do on your own.”
Comfort says the stretching technique can be life-altering.
“You know what they did when they came in, what they couldn’t do, and what they’re doing now and just how much we been able to change their lives,” she told us.
Stretch Zone has several locations in San Antonio, across Bexar County, South Texas and nationwide.
