Another checkpoint is hit in the $1.4 billion Loop 1604 North Expansion Project designed to bring less congestion to San Antonio.
SAN ANTONIO — A new flyover ramp is expected to open in northwest San Antonio Thursday as part of the ongoing highway project aimed at bringing more road mobility to the Alamo City, according to TxDOT.
The ramp, the third one at the location, will be situated at the Loop 1604 and Interstate 10 interchange.
This opening comes after the first ramp at the location opened in Dec. 2024, connecting Loop 1604 eastbound to I-10 westbound. The second ramp opened in early June 2025, connecting I-10 westbound to Loop 1604 westbound by Kyle Seale Parkway.
All eight flyovers are expected to open by the end of 2026.

The project has been ongoing a few years now, causing nearly weekly lane closures and traffic jams for drivers in the Rim, La Cantera and Six Flags areas.
This phase is just one of six segments TxDOT has been working on across San Antonio for the past few years as part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project–a yearslong, $1.4 billion project designed to gown a north-side stretch of the major corridor from four lanes to 10 lanes across, including the addition of an HOV lane in both directions.
TxDOT officials say that, once completed, it’s expected to decrease travel times by as much as 80 minutes. A five-level interchange at I-10 and Loop 1604 constitutes the headlining innovation brought on by the project.
