‘The proposal heard round the world’ | Jason Kelce reacts to Taylor Swift, brother Travis Kelce’s engagement

An episode of the Kelce brothers’ podcast earlier this month broke listening records when Swift popped on to talk about her upcoming album.

WASHINGTON — In case you haven’t heard, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged.

The engagement, revealed Tuesday to fans and the world with a joint Instagram post, sparked a worldwide celebration of the couple’s love. Among those celebrating was Travis’ brother Jason Kelce, who posted a short video Wednesday congratulating the couple.

The video was released as part of a new episode of the “New Heights” podcast that the Kelce brothers run. Swift was on the previous episode, which was reportedly recorded just before Travis popped the question. That podcast episode detailed Swift’s upcoming album “Life of a Showgirl” and breaking podcasting records for listeners.

According to Jason Kelce, the latest episode was recorded on Monday, which was Travis’ day off from NFL practice, so they didn’t discuss the proposal at all.

“So he is not here to address this himself, but we felt it was necessary, as a team here at New Heights, to get together and send Travis and Taylor a giant congratulations for being engaged,” Jason said.

The video then cut to the production team, who fist pumped and cheered as Jason let out a “yeah!” before calling the event “the proposal heard ’round the world.”

The global pop star and the Chiefs’ tight end announced the news on Instagram Tuesday afternoon with a series of photos of the proposal in a garden.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” Swift captioned the post.

How did Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce meet?

The pop star first went public with her relationship with Kelce in October 2023 when she attended a Kansas City Chiefs game.

According to People, the first interaction between the two happened after Kelce attended Swift’s Eras Tour concert at Arrowhead Stadium in July 2023.

Kelce explained on his podcast that he made a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it and attempted to meet Swift, but her security guard told him she wasn’t meeting anyone at the time.

In a November 2023 interview with The Wall Street Journal, Kelce noted he had some help in connecting with Swift later down the line.

“There were definitely people she knew that knew who I was, in her corner… I had somebody playing Cupid,” he said.

Kelce added that Swift reached out to him, leading to their first date in New York. He later confirmed on The Pat McAfee Show that the date took place around one month before Swift’s first appearance at a Chiefs game that September.

Swift also opened up about the relationship in a December interview with TIME

“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” she said.

“We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple,” Swift added.

Their relationship was documented in countless shots of Swift celebrating at Chiefs games and fan videos of Kelce dancing along at Swift’s Eras concert tour as it traveled the globe.

Where did Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce get engaged?

According to reports, Kelce proposed to Swift at his Leawood, Kansas estate. The actual proposal happened a “couple of weeks ago,” Travis’ dad, Ed Kelce, later confirmed.
