‘The View’ reportedly under investigation after interview with Texas State Rep. James Talarico

The Federal Communications Commission is investigating the talk show for potentially violating equal time rules.

AUSTIN, Texas — “The View” is currently under investigation for potentially violating rules regarding discussions with political candidates.

According to Reuters, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is investigating whether the ABC show broke equal time rules after an interview with Texas State Rep. James Talarico that aired Monday, Feb. 2.

Talarico is running against U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in Texas’ U.S. Senate Democratic primary. During his interview, he spoke with all five hosts of “The View” about his his religious beliefs and current political career in the race against Crockett.

“Congresswoman Crockett is my friend. I have deep love and respect for her. She is a leader in our state,” he said. “And I have said before that if she wins this nomination, I will be behind her 1000% and I will do everything I possibly can to get her to the finish line.”

FCC shifts equal rights rules

In January, the FCC stated that talk shows must now provide the same amount of time to political candidates on varying sides. These shows were previously exempt from this ruling, as they were often considered “bona fide news” interviews.

In a public notice released late January, the commission stated it “has not been presented with any evidence that the interview portion of any late night or daytime television talk show program or on air presently would qualify for the bona fide news exemption.”

The equal time rules stem from the 1927 Radio Act and later the Communications Act of 1934, the latter of which created the FCC through the U.S. Congress under recommendation from then-president Franklin Roosevelt.
