NEW ORLEANS — The Philadelphia Eagles are the champions of the NFL after their blowout win over the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs Sunday night.
And while they’re partying in the streets of Philly, there are also celebrations on Houston-area high school campuses. That’s because the Eagles’ roster has plenty of athletes from right here in Southeast Texas.
You probably already know about Jalen Hurts, who played his high school football in Channelview. Hurts led the Eagles to the big win and was named Most Valuable Player in the process.
Here are some others who will get fitted for their Super Bowl championship rings.
- Punter Braden Mann played for Cy-Fair.
- Defensive tackle Gabe Hall played for Waller.
- Defensive tackle Moro Ojomo played for Katy.
- Safety Tristin McCollum played for Galveston Ball and Sam Houston State.
- Receiver Ainias Smith played for Dulles.
- Linebacker Jalyx Hunt didn’t go to high school in Texas, but did play in college for Houston Christian University.
And while he didn’t go to school in Houston, cornerback Darius Slay Jr. works out here.
Kansas City guard McKade Mettauer wasn’t on the winning sideline, but he was a Friday night hero here in the Houston area. He played his high school football for The Woodlands.
