These Texas cities have the safest drivers, report shows

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas tops the U.S. for states with the safest drivers, a new study shows.

According to Allstate’s “2025 America’s Best Drivers Report,” two Texas cities made the Top 10 safest in the country based on data from January 2022 and December 2023. The list compares 200 of the most heavily populated cities across the U.S.

Brownsville, Texas, ranked No. 1, while Laredo, Texas, came in fifth. Several other Texas cities also made the top 10%, including McAllen in 11th and Corpus Christi in 20th.

Coming in second overall was Boise, Idaho, while Fort Collins, Colorado, ranked third and Cary, North Carolina, came in fourth.

That’s not all. While lower on the list, several of Texas’ major cities were also highlighted for their driving, including San Antonio in 129th, Austin in 135th, Houston ranked at 154th and Dallas at 165th.

Across the state, additional Texas cities mentioned included Amarillo (28th), El Paso (38th), Lubbock, (45th), Killeen (74th), Pasadena (89th), Frisco (95th), Waco (112th), Grand Prairie (113th), McKinney (118th), Plano (122nd), Denton (123rd), Fort Worth (128th), Irving (134th), Arlington (143rd), Mesquite (151st) and Garland (170th).

In Texas, 21 cities have received better scores over the past 10 years, including Austin and Dallas.

The five “riskiest” cities for driving were Springfield, Massachusetts; Worcester, Massachusetts; Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; and Boston.

Typically, Allstate said most drivers are involved in a crash once each 10.56 years on average. In places like Brownsville, that number was roughly one crash every 14.24 years, which is roughly 25% less than the country’s average. In comparison, Boston saw about 3.07 collisions per decade.
