‘They ransacked the store’ | Thieves hit northwest-side smoke shop two nights in a row; police seek suspects

“The back-to-back nature of it does seem to call into question whether or not they’re tied together in any way,” Flite 4/20 Smoke Shop’s attorney said.

SAN ANTONIO — A northwest-side smoke shop was targeted by thieves on back-to-back nights this week, prompting the store’s attorney and local authorities to ask for the public’s help in identifying the suspects.

According to attorney Daniel Mehler, who represents the Flite 4/20 Smoke Shop and Dispensary, four individuals were caught on camera breaking into the business early Monday morning around 2 a.m. The store is located on De Zavala Road near Interstate 10.

“Multiple individuals broke in, they ransacked the store,” Mehler said.

The suspects were able to smash through the front glass door and steal items from the shelves and displays. However, they failed to access the store’s safe or secured inventory during the first incident.

Initially, management did not report Monday’s break-in to law enforcement, hoping to avoid negative publicity.

But less than 30 hours later—just after 6 a.m. Tuesday—thieves returned. This time, they managed to break into the safe, stealing cash, products and anything else of value.

“The back-to-back nature of it does seem to call into question whether or not they’re tied together in any way,” Mehler said.

Surveillance footage captured one of the suspects’ faces during one of the break-ins. That image has been turned over to San Antonio police, who are now investigating.

“We would certainly hope that anyone out there with any information would come forward,” Mehler said. “We want a safer city and a safe experience for everyone.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact SAPD.
