‘They will pay’ | Mother of murdered SA teen hopeful for justice after investigators release images of persons of interest

Simon Cuevas III was attacked by five suspects while walking home from school on April 16. Police say one of the individuals shot and killed the 14-year-old boy.

SAN ANTONIO — The mother of a murdered 14-year-old boy is desperate for answers, even more so after San Antonio Police released surveillance images showing two “persons of interest.”

“It’s very frustrating. It’s hard to just not know what’s going on, feeling helpless like you want to be out there and trying to catch these people but you can’t. You have to sit back and let the authorities take care of it,” said Alejandra Cuevas, mother of Simon Cuevas III.

San Antonio Police say Simon Cuevas was beaten and shot to death around 2 p.m. at South Elmendorf street and Merida street on April 16.

According to police, Simon was walking home from school when five suspects jumped him. One of the suspects pulled out a gun, shooting and killing Simon before taking off.

Surveillance images and video released Saturday by SAPD and Crime Stoppers reveals two adolescent males in the hours before Simon was killed. Police are calling these individuals persons of interest, one of whom was allegedly seen arriving and fleeing the crime scene.

In the days and weeks since Simon’s murder, family and friends have done everything they can to keep his story alive as the search for suspects continues.

“These individuals will be caught and they will pay for what they did to him,” Alejandra said.

If you recognize the persons of interest, call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP.

Crime Stoppers may pay up to $5,000 for information leading to felony arrests in this case.
