SAN ANTONIO — Police are searching for a gunman after a shooting at a west-side apartment complex left one man injured, authorities said.
The shooting was reported just before noon Sunday at the Westwinds Apartments on Colt Drive. Officers say three men in their 20s were sitting at a picnic table when four men arrived in a black truck and pulled up next to them.
Police said one of the men got out of the truck and opened fire on the group before getting back into the vehicle. The truck then fled the scene with all four men inside.
A witness who did not want to be identified said he heard more than 10 gunshots before looking out his window and seeing a truck speeding away.
“It sounded like they’re trying to kill somebody,” the witness said. “I heard someone peel out, and I looked out my window and saw a truck go by real fast. Then I saw the cops come.”
Police said one of the three men at the picnic table was struck by gunfire. The other two were able to run away and were not injured. The wounded man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
The witness said violence in the neighborhood is not uncommon and that the incident has made him more cautious.
“I’m always walking down the street, you know. I don’t know if they can mistake me for someone else,” he said. “That’s why I don’t walk late at night.”
Police have not released a description of the suspect or a possible motive for the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
