Popular San Antonio-based burger company Whataburger is giving away $2 million as part of its commitment to serving local communities.

They are giving away over “$2 million in scholarships to eligible students across its 14-state footprint for the 2023-2024 academic year through the company’s two scholarship programs—the Whataburger Feeding Student Success Scholarship and the Whataburger Family Foundation Scholarship.”

Whataburger opened its first store in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1950 and now has over 670 stores across Texas, with more than 200 spread across thirteen other states. The headquarters for Whataburger is in San Antonio, Texas.

In December 2021, Whataburger launched their Feeding Student Success Scholarship, a “new, $500,000 commitment to help college, university and not-for-profit vocation school students achieve their educational goals.” Across 2022 it awarded a total of $1.5 million in scholarship funds, which has increased to $2 million for the 2023/24 academic year.

While aiming for their educational dreams, no student should ever have to worry about nourishment or the resources to succeed. We know there can be challenges along the way. That’s why through Whataburger Feeding Student Success, we’re dedicated to helping students focus on their goals while giving them the best chance possible at a fulfilling future.” Whataburger Community Experience Manager, Allie Watters

In addition to the Whataburger Feeding Student Success Scholarship fund investment, the Whataburger Family Foundation regularly awards scholarship funding to Whataburger employees and their dependents during the spring and fall semesters. The Foundation has “awarded nearly $21 million in assistance, with $10.4 million awarded in scholarships and $10.5 million in hardship grant assistance.”
