Thousands of fans expected in downtown San Antonio for 33rd Annual Alamo Bowl

What you should know ahead of the game before you head downtown.

SAN ANTONIO — Thousands of college football fans are expected downtown as the 33rd annual Alamo Bowl kicks off Tuesday night at the Alamodome.

The USC Trojans will face off against the TCU Horned Frogs, with kickoff set for 8 p.m.

Football excitement is already building across the city, with several fan events scheduled throughout the day ahead of the game.

Tailgate Town gets things started at 9 a.m. at the Alamodome. Fans who pre-purchased parking can set up tents and tailgate until game time. Attendees can also sample sausage courtesy of Kiolbassa Smoked Meats.

Later in the day, the official pregame gathering moves to the Espee. The Alamo Bowl Fan Zone runs from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., featuring performances by both university bands, food, drinks, and a chance for fans and alumni to mingle before heading to the stadium.

For those heading downtown, VIA Metropolitan Transit is offering a budget-friendly alternative to parking near the Alamodome. From 5 to 8 p.m., VIA will operate Park & Ride service from four locations:

  • Brooks Transit Center

  • Crossroads Station

  • Frost Bank Center

  • Stone Oak Park & Ride

Parking is free, and riders can purchase a $2.60 round-trip ticket to and from the game. Buses will run until one hour after the game ends.

As for the matchup on the field, USC enters as the favorite, but TCU has history on its side. The Horned Frogs are undefeated in their two previous Alamo Bowl appearances.
