Royal Ridge Elementary was locked down after a shooting threat, but police found nothing and believe it was a prank.
SAN ANTONIO — Royal Ridge Elementary School was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after an anonymous caller threatened violence against the campus, North East ISD officials confirmed.
The school is located on Royal Ridge Drive near Randolph Blvd. on the northeast side of town.
According to Principal Caleb Jackson, the school received a phone call around 8 a.m. from an unidentified individual who claimed to be inside a restroom on campus and said they were going to “shoot up the school.”
As a precaution, administrators immediately activated the school’s Standard Response Protocol and initiated a lockdown while notifying the North East Police Department.
Officers with NEPD and the San Antonio Police Department searched both the interior and exterior of the school. No weapons or suspects were found, and the lockdown was lifted later in the morning.
Police believe the threat was a prank call, but the investigation remains ongoing.
“The person responsible will face serious criminal charges,” Jackson said in a message to parents.
School officials acknowledged the incident was frightening for students and families and said counselors are available on campus to support anyone who needs help processing the event.
Parents with questions were encouraged to contact the school directly at 210-407-7000.
