With the signing of Alex Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee achieves a family milestone never before seen in the NBA.
WASHINGTON — The Milwaukee Bucks have created NBA history by signing forward forward Alex Antetokounmpo to a two-way contract, becoming the first franchise with three brothers on active roster deals.
Octagon managing director Alex Saratsis confirmed the news to ESPN Monday.
Alex, 24, joins his older siblings Giannis and Thanasis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee. The youngest of the trio, Alex spent recent seasons overseas and in the NBA G League after going undrafted in 2021. The Bucks waived guards Jamaree Bouyea and Cormac Ryan to open up slots for the move.
This marks the first time in league history that three brothers have been rostered simultaneously by one NBA team.
While multiple sets of siblings have made it to the NBA, including the Holiday and Ball brothers, the Antetokounmpo trio is the only brother trio to play on the same squad. Three Antetokounmpo brothers previously appeared together on court during a Lakers-Bucks matchup in 2021, when their other brother, Kostas, was with Los Angeles, but three Antetokounmpo brothers have never been on the same team together in the NBA until now.
Alex began his professional career with Spain’s Murcia club in 2020 before spending the 2021–22 season with Raptors 905 in the G League. He later joined the Wisconsin Herd, Milwaukee’s G League affiliate, appearing in 50 games over two seasons and averaging 5.8 points and 3 rebounds.
The signing news comes not long after rumors that Giannis, a two-time MVP and franchise star, would be traded ahead of this year’s NBA season. Thanasis re-signed earlier this offseason, and Giannis recently returned from leading Greece to a bronze medal at EuroBasket 2025.
