ORANGE, Texas — The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Vidor Police Department were kept busy Saturday evening, after two separate dog attacks sent three total people to the hospital.
The attacks took place at different residences in Orange County within hours of each other according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Saturday evening the Vidor Police Department was called to a home on the 600 block of West Park Street in reference to a dog attack.
Officers arrived at the house where they heard a woman screaming in the yard, and then found a man calling for help with a dog biting his upper arm according to Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll.
An officer quickly shot and killed the dog before giving first aid to the two victims.
Chief Carroll says first aid was rendered to both victims until arrival of Acadian Ambulance Service and Orange County ESD #1. The man was taken in serious condition to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital, and the woman was taken in non-life-threatening status to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Officers later learned that the dog involved in the attack belonged to the family.
Just four miles away, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office got another call involving an attack from on Evangeline Drive.
The OSCO, as well as Animal Control, arrived at a family home to find a man suffering from multiple injuries stemming from “a very aggressive attack” according to OSCO Public Information Officer, Dane Trahan.
That man was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital by a trauma team after first responders were able to subdue the dog, which was still acting aggressively and was later put down according to Trahan.
Officials say that man’s injuries will require surgery.
Trahan says the attacks were unrelated and perpetuated by two different breeds of dogs.
