Three men steal handgun, lead officers on chase, New Braunfels Police said

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Three men were arrested after New Braunfels Police say they stole a handgun from a truck and led officers on a chase.

This happened Monday at around 7 p.m. in the 2900 block of Cold Spring Drive in the Creekside Shopping Center.

Officers responded to a report that three men wearing masks broke into a pickup truck in a restaurant parking lot and stole a handgun. A witness told officers they took off in a silver Nissan Altima.

Officers located the suspects’ car and tried to pull them over, but they took off and led officers down I-35 south, police said in a Facebook post. The chase then went off the highway and into the downtown area and back onto I-35 south. Eventually, one of the suspects’ tires blew out and the chase ended on I35 just before FM 3009, police said.

All three suspects were taken out of the vehicle and arrested, police said. The driver, 32-year old Matthew R. Sandoz of San Antonio, was charged with Burglary of a Vehicle, Theft of a Firearm, and Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, New Braunfels Police said. The passengers, 36-year old Felipe Jesus Tijerina of Grand Prairie, Texas, and 26-year old George Michael Rodriguez of San Antonio, were charged with Burglary of a Vehicle and Theft of a Firearm, according to police.

No word on whether the suspects posted bond. New Braunfels Police said this was an ongoing investigation.

This is a developing story and further details will be added as they are received.
