A few Alamo City theaters are turning upside down when the finale of Netflix’s hit show arrives on New Year’s Eve.

SAN ANTONIO — One of Netflix’s biggest live-action hits returned with vengeance to along with its currents of ’80s scifi nostalgia.

The fifth and finale season of “Stranger Things” – the streamer’s massively popular show about interdimensional ghouls going bump in the night in the fictional Indiana town of Hawkins – arrived with a bang over the Thanksgiving holiday. The new episodes netted 60 million views, according to Netflix, making it “the biggest premiere week ever for an English-language show” in the streamer’s history.

Anticipation continues to mount as Netflix prepares to release three more episodes on Christmas and the series finale on New Year’s Eve. Fans will be able to swap the TV screen for the cinema: In a rare move, some U.S. theater chains plan to hop onto the hype train and screen the final episode, which will clock in at two hours and five minutes.

Tickets for the “promotional fan screenings” went on sale Tuesday, and they’re going fast (Santikos is requiring customers to do so in-person at a theater).
